Permit and Inspection Responsibilities
Permit requirements differ depending on your project scope and the authority having jurisdiction for your address. There are 18 incorporated cities in San Diego County, plus unincorporated areas governed directly by the County. Each has its own building code thresholds.
In the City of San Diego, tub-to-tub and shower-to-shower replacements that do not change the size or location generally do not require a building permit. Relocating plumbing, adding electrical circuits or making structural changes typically does require one.
